Mosaic promotes the arts in four basic ways: publishing, organizing, promoting, and connecting. We publish a magazine of undergraduate literature once a year, with selections created and chosen by OSU students. We organize events like art viewings and poetry readings several times per quarter. We promote the events of other groups related to the arts, and we host social events of our own to connect the arts community on a more social level.

Mosaic promotes itself in four basic ways: with our Unveiling, various events, public advertisements, and online. Every spring we unveil our finished magazine to the public and use this opportunity to directly give our publication to the public. We do not distribute in newsstands or mail our magazine. We also distribute our magazine and information about our club at any number of events, hosted by our own club or at broader organizations at OSU. We buy advertisements through organizations such as the Lantern to promote our club and our events. We post fliers in academic buildings and dorms. We finally distribute our magazine online through our website, mosaicosu.com, and promote our events through other websites, including facebook.

We have a description of our positions included in the editorial board application available on our website.

No. Mosaic is a student organization and all “editors” are leaders on a volunteer basis.

Not really. Editors mostly lead their respective staffs and collaborate on the long-term vision for Mosaic, as well as contribute to event planning. The only editing we do on submissions is minor grammatical, spelling, or image quality tweaks that do not interfere with the meaning of the work.

Anyone who will be an undergraduate at Ohio State University’s Columbus campus during the coming school year is eligible.

The time commitment of an editor depends on the position and quarter. Of the positions with high quarterly variation, all of them have a peak rate of 3 to 5 hours per week during one quarter a year.

Mosaic prefers leaders with leadership experience, commitment to the arts, organization, and experience in a publishing organization. Candidates who have successfully led groups of their peers in the past are welcome, as are candidates with committed interest in the arts. Mosaic also prefers candidates with strong organization and time management. Those applicants with experience in publishing or editorial capacities will be favored, especially experiences similar to Mosaic staff experience.

The leadership positions in order from most to least competitive application pools are: Literature Editor, Editor in Chief, Art Editor, and Layout Editor, followed by all other positions.

Applicants can improve their applications by attending Mosaic’s events and by joining a staff. The most important trait is a demonstrated and visible interest and commitment. These are strong characteristics for a potential leader.
